Material Text Culture Blog
M(aterial) T(ext) C(ulture) Blog is the collaborative text depot of the CRC 933 "Material Text Cultures". Aim of this interactive platform is to document in their temporal sequence the various kinds of scripturality that serve the generation, securing, storing and recontextualisation of knowledge in an interdisciplinary research centre for the humanities – especially in the light of their variability, instability and precariousness – and thus return them to epistemic practice.
With that, "MTC Blog" is also a self-reflexive instrument for the "manufacture of knowledge" (Hans-Jörg Rheinberger), because it brings to light or unmasks the "traces" committed to writing by epistemic practice – quite regardless of how evanescent, 'incomplete' or context-bound they may be – as "inscriptions" (Hans-Jörg Rheinberger), and thus as the indispensable prerequisite and paradigmatic feature of our scientific practice. "MTC Blog" directs our gaze then to the fact that the practice of research in the humanities is neither based solely on 'scholarly' texts, nor brings forth 'scholarly' texts alone, but rather is constituted and stabilised by a scarcely calculable variety in the form and content of the scriptural, without the great majority of these texts ever having been published, documented or subjected to epistemological analysis. "MTC Blog" is thus closely related to one of the central research topics of the CRC 933 "Material Text Cultures": the operative effectiveness of the scriptural within the framework of epistemic practices.
Given these objectives, the texts on the "MTC Blog" are not subject to any stipulations in terms of form or content (except as regard lewd, insulting or discriminatory content). Sole criterion for inclusion on "MTC Blog" is a direct reference to the scientific activities/ epistemic practices of the CRC 933 "Material Text Cultures" and to research into material text cultures in general.
